So, very few of the Millennials may recognize the song Clair De Lune and know it was composed by Claude Debussy; however, if you play the tune, they could tell you it was from the score of Twilight!
Let us talk a little about the French composer behind the song and what his life was like. Throughout his history, he is contentiously notated as a "bad boy" of classical music. Mr. Debussy was often hailed as a womanizer as well with many noteable and published women tales of anguish, acts of passion, and filandering. His professors at the conservatory languished that Debussy as unteachable. However, he became widely known and famous in regards to his music. Later in life when he was unable to perform as much (due to cancer) he was regarded as a wonderful music critic under the pseudonym M. Croche. Debussy did not compose any sacred music as he did not affiliate with any known religion and was once quoted as stating " We have not the simple faith of other days". However, if you listen to his music, you can greatly hear his heart and soul as poured beautifully intricate notes into dynamically moving musical pieces for multiple instruments. His first true love was the piano.
He was also involved in other pursuits including "The Symbolists" where many painters, writers, and musicians explored many myths and the ability of the subconscious mind within their work. His music is often described is a painting of sound.
